Caitlin Boyle

Using the art of portraiture to explore the relationship between mental degeneration and a loss of autonomy, I create works that aim to comment upon the lack of compassion and understanding towards people with dementia. I pay particular care and attention to the portrayal of a person’s eyes. While the mind and memory become fragmented, skin becomes weathered and health deteriorates, the eyes forever remain constant. Collaborating in art as therapy allows my work to transcend the normal boundaries of art and become a tool in increasing personal autonomy in communities with vulnerable older people. The series is called ‘Fragments’ and all works are graphite on Paper.
